Harkness Roses 1879 Launch Rose Alfred Robert Boe at RHS Hampton Court

Harkness Roses 1879, renowned British Rose Breeders, announce the launch of Rose Alfred Robert Boe, named after the father of multi-platinum selling recording artist and musical theatre star Alfie Boe OBE, will raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research.

This stunning rose will be launched at Hampton Court in July, and for every rose sold, Harkness Roses 1879 are proud to donate £2.50 to Brain Tumour Research.

Brain Tumour Research funds sustainable research at dedicated centres in the UK. It also campaigns for the Government and larger cancer charities to invest in more research into brain tumours to speed up new treatments for patients and, ultimately, to find a cure. The charity is the driving force behind the call for a national annual spend of £35 million to improve survival rates and patient outcomes in line with other cancers such as breast cancer and leukaemia.

Philip Harkness, Managing Director of Harkness Roses 1879 said: “The Alfred Robert Boe Rose will help raise money and awareness for Brain Tumour Research which we hope will help the charity in the vital work that they fund. A flamboyant floribunda rose with shades of apricot, peach and pink has a compact bushy growth habit making it suitable for beds and borders and will also thrive in a large pot. It has a delicious scent of sweet rose but possesses a little sharpness that keeps it refreshing.”

Dan Knowles, CEO of Brain Tumour Research, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Harkness Roses to launch this very special rose in memory of Alfie’s dad. With one in three people knowing someone affected by a brain tumour, Alfred’s story is, sadly, not unique. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to brain tumours since records began in 2002.
