Harkness Roses launch the Dr. Susan Michaelis Rose

The Harkness Rose Company. Renowned British Rose Breeders since 1879, are proud to announce the launch of the Dr. Susan Michaelis Rose. The rose will be launched on our stand at the Chelsea Flower Show in May.

This delightful pink rose exudes magnificence. Plants are strong and upright, demonstrating resilience and sturdiness. With dense, dark green glossy foliage – an asset sometimes lacking in other Hybrid Tea’s – this rose really deserves its place in any garden setting.

The Rose, which has been bred by Philip Harkness has a subtle, yet spicy perfume which is intensified by the presence of a warm summers evening.

Philip Harkness, Chairman of the Harkness Rose Company said: This rose would make a fantastic specimen plant standing alone, or a wonderful addition to a mixed border. It has been a real pleasure working with Dr. Susan Michaelis on her rose and on the short film being made about her story – Eve Groves by husband and film director Tristan Loraine.

First diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer (ILC) in 2013, former airline pilot Dr. Susan Michaelis (BCAhon) initiated the ‘Lobular Moon Shot Project’ (www.lobularmoonshot.org); in 2023 to raise awareness of and funding for research into ILC by The Institute of Cancer Research London (ICR). £2.50 from the sale of each rose will go to the fund chosen by Dr. Susan Michaelis.

Rose Information:

Classic Hybrid Tea blooms first begin as high pointed buds, full of promise. And they do not disappoint! As the 40+ petals begin to unfurl, you’ll be treated to a vision of deep cerise pink, with flecks of silvery white which are a nod to the contrast that is revealed as the blooms open more fully. The flowers still look vibrant even as they begin to fade, with the cerise shade transitioning through a deeper purple colour. This beautiful rose has very few thorns and its bright bold colour will attract bees.

Height/Spread: 100cm x 85cm

Rose Type: Bush Rose, Hybrid Tea

Fragrance: Subtle and spicy

Blooms: June-October

£2.50p from the sale of each Dr. Susan Michaelis Rose will be paid to The Institute of Cancer Research, London (ICR) to support their lobular breast cancer (ILC) research fund. ICR is  College of the University of London and is regulated by the Office for Students, which has similar powers to the Charity Commission. The exempt reference number is: X90004

The rose is available to pre-order for autumn delivery at www.roses.co.uk or www.worldofroses.com.
